27 Jan How to do formal the right way
It’s always a struggle dressing up for a wedding, 21st or ball. A strict dress code puts a lot of pressure on what to wear. It’s hard not to cave and buy a dress that just isn’t you or falling back to that old LBD dress you wear to everything.
We put together some of our favourite dresses and how to style them. Hopefully our tips will help you dress a little more you at your next event…
You’ll all know by now how much we’re crushin’ on blazers. We love a matching blazer and pant so we paired up the For Love and Lemons Jackpot Brocade Blazer and Pant . The tee and docs are perfect for a smart casual event, or you can dress it up with a nice top and heels at night.
We also love a blazer dress so we transformed the For Love and Lemons Lara Jacket by sizing up and adding a belt. The G.E.M. x Lazy Oaf Velvet Blazer dress is also perfect for this kind of look.
2. Maxi dress with sneakers
Heels? Who needs em!? Sneakers are cooler and way more comfy so you can actually dance all night. Pair them with a stand out maxi dress for a killer look. Extra points if you colour coordinate the whole fit.
We just had to choose the For Love & Lemons Nadine Velvet Maxi for this one. The blue velvet is 100% sure to make heads turn and makes for an amazing outfit paired with the Puma Thunders in White + Blue.
For a simple but stunning look, the Bec and Bridge Midnight Dance Midi Dress in Silver has got to be it. The touch of silver in the adidas Originals Falcon Sneakers in off-white absolutely makes this outfit.
3. The classic black dress
Okay we’ve got to give it to that black dress. It’s flattering, easy and can take you anywhere. Our top pick for this one was the Bec & Bridge Amelie Panel Midi Dress. The cutouts and sleek shape will have you sorted for anything.
4. Layer it!
We’ve been putting tees under dresses since the dawn of time to dress down a look. Our new favourite thing is adding a crisp white button-up underneath to dress it up.
Adding the Nique shirt under the new Bec & Bridge Check You Later mini dress gave it a cute preppy look, while the sneakers and matching sunglasses keep it cool.
